Beaches

King George III visited Weymouth in the late 1700’s and bathed in the sea from his bathing hut. Society followed in his footsteps making Weymouth a popular destination. The large sweeping bay offers a combination of sand to the West changing to shingle towards Bowleaze Cove. Young children enjoy the golden beach as the warm shallow water is great for paddling. Even after walking a long way out the sea can be only up to your knees. For a more quieter beach head along the promenade towards Greenhill the beach here is more pebbly and the sea deeper, ideal if you are a keen swimmer.

Weymouth beach has been awarded the Quality Coast Award status for 2012.
